THE MILL PROPOSAL

THE MILL

A media studio

A MARKETING PROPOSAL FOR ABBEY MILL BUSINESS CENTRE

F.A.O

Mr MARCUS DEAN & LOUISE WIGHTMAN

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

I’m offering to produce a daily professional Video-Podcast show from a space at Abbey Mill Business Centre. This would consist of interviews with creatives, entrepreneurs and the business community. 1-2 interviews daily, 6 days a week.

I’m confident this prolific amount of media content would help explode your social media platforms to a very precise demographic. A market that could potentially want space at Abbey Mill Business Centre.

If you went to any corporate video company, it wouldn’t be cost effective for you or them to produce this volume of media content. However, it’s doable if I was employed as a “Digital Content Producer”.

I could create and process all this media content as an employee on a fixed wage. Your current marketing team could then help share the produced and processed content to social media platforms.

Why would I want to do this after being self employed for twenty years? I see a gap in the market for a “Media Studio” space for the creative and business market. I would like to try and start the first studio space at Abbey Mill. (The Mill) I feel this reverse engineering approach could be a unique opportunity for Abbey Mill and myself.

I don’t want to try and raise the money for this space first. I would rather try and grow the potential market online first. Which brings us back to these daily video and podcast shows. Interview the type of people that would potentially use this type of space. And encourage them to share to their social media.

The media production and promotion studio, could also be the media marketing department for abbey mill promotions too. Abbey Mill based businesses could also use this promotion platform via the studio. They could also create content for their businesses.

This approach helps to keep the risk very low. I believe I would have the market built for this space via these shows. However, If I did not build the market for the studio after six months, your social media platforms would still be saturated with quality engaging story telling media content that could build your potential customer base.

THE DAILY VIDEO-PODCAST-LIVE SHOW FOR ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS.

The shows subject matter and media content distribution

The interviews would be with all sorts of creatives, entrepreneurs and the business community. The shows subject matter would focus on how we are all trying to market better in this new social media landscape.

These 30 minute shows would be released on youtube, facebook video, and also chopped up to minute size promo videos & pics for platforms like twitter, instagram, linkedIn, and several other platforms.

The content would also be tagged and strategic to reach the precise market that could be interested in abbey mill space. And could build the market for the forthcoming studio space. “The Mill” media studio.

Abbey Mill Sponsored commercials & monthly promotion events

I would also shoot brief video commercials and audio commercials that show abbey mill space available. As well as a documentary to chart this project from day one.

We could also have monthly networking events on the 4th floor to promote the show and “The Mill” studio. Which is also an opportunity to create more promotional content to share on social media.

THIS SOUNDS VERY EXPENSIVE. HOW CAN YOU MAKE IT COST EFFECTIVE?

It wouldn’t be cost effective for you if you were to hire a production company to make this huge amount of media content. However, if you employed me in a position as a “Digital Content Producer”, this would cut the costs drastically. I would also bring a long term vision and commitment to the project.

WHY WOULD A FILMMAKER WANT A JOB TO CREATE ALL THIS?

I have been self employed for twenty years. I make small feature films, and I have a deal with Amazon Prime Video UK-USA to distribute my latest film. Also, a crime series that is released on Amazon Prime next month.

Creative filmmaking is my long term passion. Building a business, and a media related business that can help my future work, has been a secret passion.

A growing market for studio space for content creators.

There’s a rapidly growing market for small media studio spaces for the mass of content creators. These content creators aren’t just youtubers who make videos from their homes or on the move. But all creative types and the business community that also have to create online media content

I believe over the next 5-7 years, these type of micro studios will be all over the UK and world. Many companies will also have their own media studios In-house. Whatever business we are in, we also have to be media producing companies in this new digital world.

As a filmmaker myself, I could never find well equipped cost effective studio spaces in Glasgow. Most creators don’t want to hire a place for a long lease, they just want facilities for a few hours or days. This studio could also teach how to market better.

Youtube has ten studio spaces around the world. They offer this type of service to youtubers who have ten thousand subscribers and above. One studio in London does not even make a dent on the growing market out there. (Article about youtube London space) I want to start one in a smaller scale first.

A MEDIA STUDIO SPACE AT ABBEY MILL.

I want to try and create a studio space like this from Abbey Mill. Maybe something in the range of 3000 square feet. Or even bigger if possible.

“The Mill” studio space would be for creatives and businesses. It would have spaces and facilities for this new market, but it would also be a hub for new ideas, collaborations, networking and workshops and classes.

It would also be used to promote the Abbey Mill Business Centre. Abbey Mill based businesses would also be able to promote their businesses, and make content from “The Mill” studio too.

I would continue to do shows to grow potential customers for abbey mill, and be a media channel for all the businesses in abbey mill to promote their businesses to the world, and local community.

DO YOU WANT TO BUILD THE STUDIO OR CREATE THE DAILY SHOW?

I don’t have the investment to do this, and I’m not looking for investment at this Seed-Spark stage.

I wouldn’t want to try and create this studio, and then hope people would come. Even though I’m convinced it would be successful. This brings me back to the reason for the daily video show.

DO YOU WANT TO BUILD THE STUDIO OR CREATE THE DAILY SHOW?

BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME?

I believe in keeping the risks as low as possible for something like this. The best way to attract the precise demographic for this type of space, is to build the market online first.

The daily show to build the market over six months to create the spark.

This is the reason for the daily media content shows to the precise market. Create a buzz around this new space that I propose, and see if the market really wants this. We can create a simple website that has mock ups of all these facilities that the studio would have, so we don’t have to create the space first.

We have a six months countdown where we create this tremendous amount of content to grow the potential market to kickstart this.

IF THE MARKETING CAMPAIGN IS SUCCESSFUL, HOW WOULD THIS PROJECT BE FUNDED?

I think it would be a lot more easy to attract investment if I show the market wants this. Then potentially fund via one or two of the sources below. The less investors the better.

• The Paisley Culture fund
• Scottish Enterprise
• Private investors
• Crowdfunding (Kickstarter or Seedrs)

I think crowdfunding would be perfect for this. Crowdfunding works best when there is a stream of content going out daily before a campaign.

People sign to the website that want to become part of the crowdfunding campaign. Which would be launched after six months of shows. If the buzz is positive for the space.

IS THIS JUST A TEMPORARY JOB YOU WANT TO HELP BUILD THE MARKET FOR THIS STUDIO?

No! If you were employing me, and still wanted me to continue, I could still be in charge of your in-house media content creation for abbey mill.

If the Paisley studio worked, and if you wanted, it could also branch out to Flemington house too. My goal would be to make this studio successful over the years.

WHAT TYPE OF STUDIO SPACE DO YOU NEED FOR THE SHOW FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS?

I want to get the feeling across that we are trying to build something from scratch. So I don’t even mind if it was a space in the building that was maybe not used, or a space that is still to be developed.

The other reason I would like to start it from abbey mill, if I had the choice, is because of abbey mills history. It was obviously such a huge manufacturing industry here & globally.

Manufacturing will obviously never be the same again here, but I want to show how we can evolve and grow our personal brands and business to the global market via better story telling promotion via social media.

WHY DOES A SELF EMPLOYED FILMMAKER WANT TO DO THIS? WILL YOU BE DISTRACTED IF HOLLYWOOD CALLS?

The world has changed in every sector. I no longer need the permission from the gatekeepers to make and distribute my films to global TV’s, Phones, Tablets, and Game consoles.

I can be successful with my films and serials on Amazon if I build over years. Latest film CBK on Amazon UK-USA & “Crime Lord” 7 Series (Released on Amazon UK-US next month) Globally by the end of the year. Supported by crime novel version.

However, marketing is also everything. Again, that’s why prolific youtubers and instagram influencers are so successful. Creating this studio, and media platform, also helps to grow my personal brand for my work over years.

This plan would also get me connecting with creatives that could be collaborators for my future projects. Projects that are shot in my spare time and holiday periods in a few weeks in the year. The studio business is my real ambition.

To put it simple, my passion and vision would not be distracted, because it’s all connected with what I do. So I also bring an extra commitment and energy to making this a success for me and abbey mill.

WHY AM I QUALIFIED FOR THIS?

I write, direct, produce, edit, build websites, vlog, and know how to technically do all this. I have spent years learning how to do social media better.

My UK & USA set films were partly funded via social media. I also work extremely well with people. Or I wouldn’t have got my films made for the cost I did. I can do these shows and potentially kickstart this studio.

This is not an idea, or theory of mine. What I am proposing is happening now. A couple of the top guys in the world that have inspired me over the last few years. (Below) www.dwilde.com
